Addendum

Last week I treated myself to a one-day getaway to beautiful Cornerstone Gardens (photos coming soon!). Since I was already going to the wine country, I decided to try and see if I could grab lunch at Addendum, a to-go window at the back of the famous and fabulous Ad Hoc restaurant (I don't know if it's actually fabulous; I've never been there, but I hear nothing but good things). That day they offered a choice of ribs or their signature buttermilk fried chicken. It was a tough choice, but I'm so glad I chose the fried chicken. It was totally worth the drive! The crispy skin is packed with flavor that is delicate, yet specific (if that makes any sense) and complements, instead of overwhelms, the taste of the chicken. I couldn't believe how much flavor I was tasting from the chicken itself. It really highlights the importance of using high quality meat, produce, and other ingredients. Accompanying the amazing fried chicken was an incredibly moist, yet firm honey cornbread. I'm a huge fan of cornbread, so the addition of honey was nearly too much for my already overloaded taste buds.

Addendum offers picnic tables for guests who choose to eat there, and I can't think of a more apt setting. Amongst Adhoc's vegetable and herb garden, underneath soaring trees with fallen fruit and vegetables scattered on the soft dirt, the spot is a lovely representation for the kind of food ethos that restaurants like Ad Hoc promote. I was so charmed by the food, the people, and the setting, I'm already plotting an excuse to head in Addendum's direction again.
