Etsuko Ichikawa

The latest Anthropologist video featuring artist Etsuko Ichikawa is simply mesmerizing. Before watching the video, I imagined that drawing with molten glass would be beautiful enough, but the trail of fire that follows her motions and the graceful ashen strokes left behind are stunning. The act of creating her pyrographs are as magnificent a sight to behold as the finished work themselves. Etsuko's movements are so controlled, yet when she stops and the fire appears, she seems to surrender to whatever the fire creates and leaves in its path. How brave and lucky she is to work with a living, breathing, dangerous, beautiful, and mysterious element as fire.
