art and design walk

red thread: amsterdam

the design enthusiast in me could not let me leave amsterdam without visiting some design stores and galleries.

frozen fountain came highly recommended by many travel guides and design-minded folks. it reminded me of one of my favorite stores in san francisco. i'm a little embarrassed to admit that i coveted almost everything in frozen fountain. they even had this sofa, which has long been a favorite of mine. it just seems like such a fun piece to have in a room.

anno was suggested in style file's amsterdam guide. i wish i could use all the chairs in this store on a permanent rotation in my home.

i first heard about koos from my dear friend viola's blog. viola has excellent taste, so i made a note to definitely check this store out. i even decided to splurge a little and purchased "jan" from their spring/summer '08 collection.

droog design is another space i was excited about checking out. they did not disappoint. i loved the light-drenched space. and i would have liked to have taken this birdhouse home with me.

huis marseilles was one of my favorite places. it's located in a gorgeous canal house and includes a library and a garden in the back.

in the garden...

... i made a new friend. tomorrow i'll introduce you to another new friend i met in amsterdam.
